Hugely entertaining and swinging 1920s-style band from West Yorkshire with their own unique and eccentric take on modern pop!

Bertie and The Spiffs are a one-of-a-kind 1920's swing band with a difference. With five outstanding musicians, an innovative outlook, and a generous helping of eccentricity and humour, Bertie and The Spiffs' performances always put a smile on their audience's faces and get their feet moving with their swinging sounds.

They've performed their roaring jazz shows at numerous notable venues, including Wembley Stadium, and London Excel Arena, as well as countless weddings and private parties, playing up a storm wherever they go!

The Spiff's wide-ranging repertoire spans Beyonce to Led Zeppelin, but always with their own inimitable stamp on each, and a great deal of flair!

The Black Sheikhs were formed in 1926 by taking life-size casts of the then highly acclaimed "Royal Dachshund Infirmary Surgeons Band", who performed canine inflected versions of popular hits of the time. The casts were forgotten, lost to the mists of time until, in 1982, they were discovered by a retail historian underneath the Trafford Centre in Greater Manchester. Animated by generous applications of salves, ointments, creams and menthol snuff, they were brought to life for your pleasure and delectation.
Open your ears and your minds to their inimitable renditions from the modern repertoire.
"Feel the clarity of the clarinet tickle your timpanic membrane, feel the saxophone surge through your ventricle, let the powerful diction comfort your sullied soul. Watch knowingly as the world opens its arms to the strains of the Black Sheikh

What people say Help

  • Bertie and the Spiffs were amazing! Brian and I had a fab conversation a few weeks before the day to finalise details and he totally understood what I was hoping to achieve, which he absolutely delivered on the day! All my guests thought they were awesome and said it was some thing they hadn't heard/seen before. The band read the 'crowd' really well and made the evening so enjoyable.....i didn't want it to end!!

  • Brian and the rest of the band were totally amazing, they entertained us and our guests throughout the evening and I can not praise them enough. We thoroughly enjoyed their performance and would strongly recommend them!

  • The band leader contacted me in advance and was friendly, thorough and professional. He and the band performed a request for our first dance, and they were kind enough to do an outline version of it for us to use during practice. They arrived promptly, setting up rapidly and unobtrusively.

The performance was magnificent. The band played two sets - for the first the guests were evidently not too distant from eating the wedding breakfast and not much inclined to dance, and the music was scintillating yet appropriate for an audience more bent on interested listening than on footwork. The second set, once people were feeling a little more mobile, kicked off very nicely and got the dancefloor well-filled throughout. The few chances I got to savour the music were rewarding, though I didn't get many given I was busy hosting. A great many of the guests took the time to tell the bride and I how much they were enjoying (and afterwards had enjoyed) their music and the feel they created. I appreciated the band's musical virtuosity, blistering yet effortless-seeming solos, seamless integration with one another, inventive and familiar playlist, and competence in the organisation of their part of the event. Oh, and they were both friendly and kind with the kids at the wedding, too.

Seeing a floor full of friends cutting the rug and having a great time was a highlight; and in general having lively, enthusiastic music of such a high standard was another. I felt proud of hosting an event at which such an adroit and exciting band was playing.

Hire Bertie and the Spiffs. You'll not regret it, and they're worth every penny and more.

  • The act was absolutely brilliant, knew how to read the crowd and so professional, wouldn't hesitate to recommend them, exactly what we wanted.
They phoned us before as well twice to confirm exactly what we wanted.
The style of music is fun witty and has great different versions of songs we all know and love. 10/10

  • Thank you so much to Bertie and the Spiffs for an absolutely brilliant and hilarious performance at our wedding. There wasn't a single guest who didn't get up and have a good old dance. The track list is absolutely spot on for getting everyone involved and was a welcome break from the standard wedding band set up. It was impossible not to have a great time!

  • Absolutely fantastic!!!!! From start to finish one of the best bands I've seen! nothing was too much trouble. I would not hesitate to recommend this band, totally professional in every way and excellent musicians! I've had nothing but positive feedback from people who attended my wife's 50th party.
