Bright and funky Leeds wedding/function band (6-piece) with powerful male & female vocals and optional brass section pump out floor fillers, from Amy Winehouse and Jamiroquai to James Brown and the Jackson 5.
Capital Soul are a slick, stylish and versatile six-piece from Leeds who specialise in dance-along funk, soul and pop, from legendary Aretha Franklin tracks to modern Mark Ronson collaborations. Their innovative versions of classic tunes, energetic male and female lead vocals and optional two-piece brass section make them one of our most popular bands, guaranteed to get the whole room moving before the end of the first song. They love adding new genres and amalgamations of styles to their repertoire, and will usually be able to perform any first dance or special song you request with a bit of notice. They can also provide a cocktail pianist and a jazz band.
The musicians were handpicked from Leeds College of Music for their virtuosity and talent for performance, and began by building themselves a funky reputation on the live music scene in Leeds. After achieving outstanding marks in their performance exams and graduating with first-class honors, they went on to receive numerous awards and record for renowned producers and major labels. Bass player Matt plays with the EMI-signed artist Ashley Hicklin; singer Laura was a finalist for the 2009 Northern Ireland Eurovision entry; and drummer John Arkell plays with hotly tipped indie band Sketches, who have celebrity fans in Johnny Marr, The Cribs and Madness.
The band’s perfect harmonies, seamless arrangements and extremely funky playing keep them busy: they currently hold a residency at a casino in Leeds, and have performed at countless weddings, parties and corporate events (for clients including Ventura Finance and the International Cotton Associations) throughout the UK and Ireland.
