One of the slickest, sexiest, most entertaining bands on the circuit, delivering classic R'n'B and Rock'n'Roll of the 50s and 60s – the music of Etta James, Dinah Washington, Little Richard, Johnny Otis, Ray Charles et al - with a 21st century attitude.

Equally at home in sweaty dive bars and clubs, dance halls, festivals, or swanky upscale private events, the Sugar Beat Band are guaranteed to get any audience off their feet and onto the dancefloor!

Formed by bassist "Thump" Thompson (founder member of The Darts, who cut his teeth playing with John Lee Hooker and Howlin' Wolf) and trumpeter and front man Ralph Lamb - a born showman who has worked with a host of stars including Tom Jones and Jamiroquai. Fronted by the sassy Hazel Sim (aka Miss Sugar T) - a natural R&B vocalist with sex appeal and glamour, whose credits include PP Arnold, Just Jack, Mike Sanchez and Matt Bianco, the band boasts a stellar group of musicians whose collective performing, recording and TV experiences include such names as:  Chaka Khan, Jamie Cullum. Michael Buble, Paul Anka, Roots Manuva, Just Jack, Incognito, Matt Bianco, Duffy, Mike Sanchez, The Herbaliser and many others.

What people say Help

  • Sugar Beat Band were head and shoulders above everyone else we considered. They were a delight to deal with but their music and performance sealed the deal - infectious, sexy jazz and bebop rock and roll. They are sharp suited, talented musicians, fronted by a beautiful woman with the voice of Etta James. At times the dance floor was packed like a sweaty, Prohibition-era speakeasy and I lost count of the number of compliments we received on their set.
