Charming and sophisticated trio performing classic French songs and folk music for listening and dancing.
The band's huge repertoire includes classic jazz, "Musette" (Parisian folk), "Chansons Realistes" (made famous by Edith Piaf), Chansons Francaises (French songs originally sung by Nougarro, Gainsbourg, Jeanne morreau, Henry Salvador, etc...), music from the 20s & 30s, and selected pop tunes. They're also able to play some Tango, and Klezmer tunes.
The band come as a trio (accordion, guitar & violin) and are available either with amplification, or acoustically, for strolling around tables. They can also expand to a quartet (their most popular line-up, which adds double bass) or shrink to a soloist (accordion) or duo (accordion + guitar) for smaller events. The band have traditional French costumes to suit all occasions.
The band's line-up includes music graduates of Guildhall, Adelaide and Leeds universities, and collectively the Vive la France! musicians have played across the globe in Europe, North America, Japan, Australasia and the Far East. Closer to home they have played at all major hotels. restaurants and music venues in the UK including The Dorchester, The Grosvenor, The Ivy, Ronnie Scott's, the Royal Opera House (Covent Garden), Wilton Music Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the National Theatre. They have also played on the Orient Express, at the West Sussex Game Fair, and on boats including the Q.E.II and the Belle Vallee on the River Seine, Paris.
Members of Vive la France! have supported Gilbert O'Sullivan, Stacey Kent, Gerry Marsden and Tina May, appeared on Top of the Pops 2, Holby City and Children in Need (Canada), and even had the pleasure of playing before Sirs Paul McCartney and Bobby Charlton, Steve Coogan!
