Profile
Established in 1997 in the English Lake District, the Intermezzo String Quartet specialises in providing appropriate and stylish background music for events and functions both large and small.
They are all professionally trained and qualified musicians. Their combined musical experience is very wide, ranging from orchestral work with professional orchestras such as the Hallé, Liverpool Philharmonic and Manchester Camerata, touring operatic companies, the local Lakeland Sinfonia; to freelance solo and chamber ensemble playing.
The
Intermezzo String Quartet has a great deal of experience providing background music for events large and small. They have played for many weddings and receptions in and around the English Lake District - Cumbria, North Lancashire and the surrounding area - and are therefore very familiar with the area's major hotels, stately homes and other civil wedding venues (including the Grange Hotel, Grange-over-Sands; Greystoke Castle, Penrith; Lakeside Hotel, Lake Windermere; Leighton Hall, Carnforth; Low Wood Hotel, Windermere; Merewood Country House Hotel, Ambleside; Muncaster Castle, Ravenglass; Ashton Memorial, Lancaster; Town Hall, Barrow; and the Swan Hotel, Newby Bridge).
The quartet has also played:
in the presence of HRH Princess Anne during the launching of a ship for the opening of Keswick's Theatre by the Lake...
at the 30th birthday party of the well-known Porthole Eating House in Bowness...
at the opening of the new Duddon Suite of the Abbey House Hotel in Barrow...
for the millennium dinner at the Miller Howe Hotel and Restaurant, Windermere...
for many corporate events
for BBC Music Live...
during cruises on Lake Windermere, Coniston and Ullswater...
in marquees, restaurants, local colleges, and people's homes...
Repertoire
The Intermezzo Quartet's repertoire is extensive and varied and through regular rehearsals. They play a large selection of popular classics from composers such as Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Mozart, and Haydn. They also love playing swing arrangements of Gershwin, Cole Porter, Kern, Bernstein and others, as well as ragtime music, show tunes, ballads, modern well known tunes, and more.
They always do their best to accommodate any particular requests which are not on our repertoire list. So if it is possible and practical to obtain or compose an arrangement of a particular piece of music which is special to you, they will do so. Please contact them for a full repertoire list.
