The Graduates are an affable, professional group of lads who sound fantastic. I’d recommend them to anyone!
The colour theme was blue – we wanted to create a relaxed atmosphere and for the evening to be like a gig in a Northern Soul/Motown music club.
We chose The Deep as our wedding venue. It is an iconic building and allowed us to have great photos in front of tanks and interesting fish. It is also a short walk away from our house.
We chose a string quartet for the ceremony, followed by the Graduates in the evening. They were our first choice among other East Yorkshire wedding bands. The quartet added a touch of class to the wedding ceremony, while the Graduates sounded amazing and brought the perfect Motown feel to our evening party.
The Graduates were very accommodating in our choice of first dance and also in our playlist track for the DJ set (including some Bhangra tunes). I’d particularly like to thank Steven who was regularly in touch with me, and was polite and helpful from the initial booking right up to packing away the band’s kit after the gig. They are an affable, professional group of lads who sound fantastic and got everyone dancing. I’d recommend them to anyone!
Other than the wedding ceremony and the speeches, hearing The Graduates for the first time was a great moment. Seeing my wife sing Total Eclipse of the Heart using the band’s microphone was also a treat.
There were a few other suppliers who made our day really special. I’d particularly like to thank Freya Cross and her team at the Deep for decorating the room wonderfully and helping to make the day run smoothly. My mum did a fantastic job on the cake, of course. Karl and Louise from Grazia Louise Photography took amazing photos and did a great job during a demanding day for them.
My best men Mark and Andy did a great job of keeping me calm and making me cry with laughter at their joint speech. I’d also like to thank my friends and family for making the trip to Hull, particularly my wife’s family from Reading, and for contributing so well to a relaxed joyous occasion.
I’d suggest that when looking for a local band, think first of the theme/vibe you want to have on your wedding day and then have a look on the Function Central website and listen to a few of the artists. They are reasonably priced and could throw in a DJ as part of the deal. Generally, I’d say get yourself a “wedmin” binder and once you’ve set the wedding date, write yourself a list of tasks to do each week leading up to the big day. Wedding planning is stressful and needs meticulous preparation. Be organised, get support and just focus on the fact that all the hard work will be worth it in the end.
