Our wedding reception was held at the Blueprint Café in London’s Design Museum. We instantly fell in love with the space — the floor-to-ceiling windows offer the most incredible views over the Thames and Tower Bridge. As soon as we saw it, we knew it would make the perfect backdrop for a winter celebration.

When it came to the style of the day, we went for a blend of subtle art-deco inspiration with a distinctly Christmassy feel. Think elegant lines, rich festive colours, twinkling lights and that cosy-but-glam winter atmosphere. The venue didn’t need much dressing at all, so we really leaned into seasonal touches to make it feel warm and magical.

Live music was an absolute must for us, so after searching for bands we landed on a live band based in London, Get Carter — and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice. Their repertoire was huge, diverse and full of songs we loved. From the very first conversation they were incredibly professional. The manager even sourced a keyboard player for us at the last minute, which took a huge weight off our shoulders.

On the night, the band were phenomenal. Everyone commented on how talented they were and how brilliant they sounded. They learnt a brand-new song for our first dance, played every track we’d requested, and kept the energy high from start to finish. They were organised, friendly, polished and honestly, very easy on the eye — which never hurts! We genuinely feel they made the entire evening. If anyone is on the fence about booking them… don’t be. You’d be mad not to.

My personal favourite moment of the entire day was the contrast between the calm, joyful ceremony at Chelsea Old Town Hall and then later — several hours and many glasses of fizz down the line — dancing like an absolute maniac to the band. It was pure happiness.

Our advice to other couples would be: book a live band, and book a good one. It elevates the whole atmosphere in a way a DJ simply can’t match, and your guests will talk about it for months afterwards. We chose Function Central because they felt like a professional, trustworthy organisation and they were incredibly helpful at every stage.

It was the best decision we made.
