Booking a rock or indie wedding band?

Rock and indie wedding bands are refreshing alternatives to traditional function bands. Here are a few reasons you might want to consider booking one:

Visual appeal
Say goodbye to the days of cheesy function bands with matching turquoise ties and shiny shirts. Our rock and indie wedding bands are an altogether trendier prospect. The bands featured on this page tend to dress authentically, with less of a formal or corporate feel.

Songs
Indie wedding bands usually incorporate more alternative genres such as indie folk music, as well as quirkier song choices. But don't worry – they'll still play all the crowd-pleasing songs your guests will know and love, in their own style.

Price
Since many rock or indie wedding bands tend to be smaller line-ups (between 3 and 5 members), they tend to be more affordable than the typical wedding function band.

Energy and excitement
There's nothing quite like the energy and excitement of a live indie or rock show. An indie wedding band can create an electric atmosphere and get your guests up and dancing, making for a truly memorable experience.

Professionalism
They may be more alternative stylistically, but you can rest assured our, indie wedding bands are still professional musicians who take their work seriously. They will arrive on time, provide high-quality sound equipment and lighting, and be respectful of you and your guests.

Indie and rock band FAQs

What sort of covers do your rock or indie bands play?

Our rock bands typically cover the full spectrum of the genre through the ages:

  • 1950s and 1960s rock'n'roll (Chuck Berry, The Beatles, The Kinks)
  • 1980s rock anthems (Bon Jovi, Journey and Queen)
  • 1990s Britpop (Blur and Oasis)
  • 2000s garage rock (The Killers and Kings of Leon)

They'll also play unique, guitar-focussed arrangements of contemporary pop anthems by artists such as Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran and Adele. This ensures that no-one misses out, even if they're not into rock music.

Our indie bands might incorporate more alternative genres such as indie folk music, as well as quirkier song choices.

Most bands featured here are smaller, guitar-based line-ups consisting of between three and five members, with a male lead vocalist.

If rock music isn't your thing, check out our soul, pop and R&B bands. These typically feature keyboards, brass section and both male and female vocalists.

Will my indie rock band bring their own equipment?

All our function bands, rock bands and indie bands are fully self-contained with their own PA sound system, microphones, backline amplifiers and instruments.

This works really well for most marquee or indoor weddings. But let us know if you're expecting more than 250 guests, so we can check whether the band’s system is large enough.

Most bands will also bring lighting for both the stage and dancefloor.

What does your quote for my indie rock band include?

Quotes for our indie rock bands are designed to cover everything you'll need on the night. Fees are inclusive unless otherwise indicated on your quote and would typically cover:

  • All sound equipment and lighting required for the performance.
  • Set up and sound-check from 5pm or 6pm
  • 2 hours of live music (divided how you want), with a finish by midnight.
  • Recorded music in the breaks, if you don't already have a DJ.
  • All travel costs.
  • PLI and PAT certificates.
  • Fast, reliable customer service, right up until your event date

Will my indie rock wedding band perform my first dance song?

First, check out the band's song list on their profile, to see if they already know it.

If not, let us know the name of the song and we'll see if your indie or rock wedding band can learn and perform it especially for your day. This will largely depend on the complexity of the song.

If the band don't feel that they'd be able to recreate the song with enough authenticity, they'd be happy to play the recorded version through their PA system instead.

How long do your indie rock bands play for?

Our indie rock bands will typically perform for 2 hours. You can divide this how you like, but we recommend either 2 x 1-hour or 3 x 40-minute sets with short intervals.

If you'd like them to play for longer, just ask and we'll see if it's possible.

We've found a band we love. How do we book?

  1. Browse rock and indie bands on this page. Use the filters in the menu at the top of the page to restrict your search to bands available on your event date, and bands in your area.

  2. Watch videos, either from this page or on the band's profile page, read biogs and view feedback from previous clients.

  3. Add any rock or indie bands you love to your enquiry list (see the shopping basket icon at the top right of this page). We'll check availability and get back to you with a quote, by email, within 24 hours. If you need advice, call us at 0333 242 0560.

  4. If you'd like to book a band, just let us know, and send us your venue location and contact details. We'll then draw up a secure booking agreement between you and the band. To confirm the booking, you'll be required to pay a deposit within seven days (between 20-26% of the booking).

How much space with the band need?

A 3-piece rock covers band will need a performance area measuring approximately 3 metres wide and 3 metres deep. As a rough guide, add on an extra metre of width per additional act member.

A raised stage might enhance the visual appeal of the band, but don't worry if you can't provide one – it won't affect the overall atmosphere, in our experience.

I'm booking a rock covers band. How loud will they be?

None of our rock bands are likely to reach uncomfortable volumes, but if you've got any concerns about young children or elderly guests, consider hiring a band that doesn't play modern rock music.

A swing, jive, or 50s rock'n'roll band can be great for dancing, without drowning out everything else.

My venue has a sound limiter installed. Is this a problem?

Possibly! Sound limiters or meters are designed to curtail the noise output of bands, often by tripping the venue's circuit if a certain threshold is exceeded.

Firstly, see if the venue are happy to deactivate the limiter for the duration of the performance. If that's not possible, let us know the limiter's threshold in decibels, so we can check whether the band are happy to perform within these limits. As a rough guide, limiters set to 92dB or under can cause issues.

If the band don't think they can perform within the limiters of the sound meter, we'll suggest a better fit, such as an acoustic band or a band substituting live drums for electric drums.
