The LSBU Radiography Summer Ball was held at The Pavilion End, a convenient and easily accessible central London venue with a lovely, uninterrupted view of St Paul's Cathedral. The setting alone helped set the scene for what we hoped would be a memorable celebration, giving everyone the chance to relax and enjoy themselves after a demanding academic year. With its bright, open spaces and friendly atmosphere, it felt like the perfect spot for students and staff to gather and unwind.
The Confidentials absolutely surpassed my expectations. From the moment they began their soundcheck, it was clear we were in for something special. They brought an energy that instantly lifted the room, creating a wonderful, lively atmosphere that helped transform the evening from a simple get-together into a genuinely fantastic night. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and you could tell they really enjoyed performing for us.
The theme for the night was simple but effective – just “party!” – and that was exactly the vibe we wanted. No gimmicks, no over-complicated decorations, just a chance to celebrate the end of the academic year in the best way possible. Sometimes keeping things straightforward works perfectly, and in this case it allowed the music, the venue, and the people to take centre stage.
The ball traditionally takes place the day after our final exam, which gives it an extra sense of relief and excitement. It’s organised and paid for by the students of LSBU Radiography, and teaching staff often join the event as well. This creates a great mix of people and makes the night feel like a genuine community celebration. It’s a brilliant opportunity for students from different years to meet, share experiences, and reflect on their journey so far. For the final-year students, it’s an even bigger occasion – their chance to look back on all they’ve achieved and enjoy one last big send-off with their peers.
I chose London function band The Confidentials as our entertainment for the evening, and I couldn’t have been happier with the decision. Not only did they deliver a fantastic live performance, but they also provided a DJ service before, between, and after their sets. This meant the room was never quiet and the momentum never dropped – exactly what you want for a celebration like this.
Their setlist was brilliant, full of lively, upbeat songs designed to get everyone on their feet. They read the room perfectly, building the energy gradually until the dance floor was completely packed. It was clear they knew exactly how to keep a crowd engaged, and their performance suited the mood of our party down to the ground.
The Confidentials really did go above and beyond. What a great band! Their ability to create such an electric atmosphere made a huge difference to the night. They didn’t just perform – they helped shape the whole event and contributed massively to how much fun everyone had.
Without a doubt, the best moment of the evening was looking around and seeing the dance floor completely full, with everyone laughing, singing, and having a great time. There’s something special about watching people let go after working so hard all year. You really can’t beat that feeling!
I found Function Central through an online search, and I’m so glad I did. The website was incredibly easy to use; I simply browsed through the available acts, listened to the music samples, and quickly narrowed down the options. The Confidentials stood out right away. The whole process was smooth and stress-free, which is exactly what you want when organising an event on top of university commitments.
Overall, the service was very professional from start to finish. It didn’t take long at all to identify the perfect band for our Summer Ball, and the final result proved that we made the right choice. The combination of a fantastic venue, a brilliant group of students and staff, and outstanding entertainment made the event one to remember.
