Guide to booking wedding function bands in Surrey

What types of music do Surrey wedding bands play?

Surrey wedding bands typically perform a wide variety of popular live music, including rock, pop, soul, Motown and current chart hits to suit all ages and musical tastes.

They range in size from 3-piece guitar-based line-ups through to 10-piece show-bands with backing vocals, brass and percussion.

If you'd prefer an act dedicated to one genre or theme, we don't want to take that away from you – browse the menus at the top of this page.

Can Surrey wedding bands learn and perform our first dance song?

Most Surrey wedding bands can learn and perform your requested first dance song with advance notice and preparation.

Depending on the complexity of the track, they may need to schedule additional rehearsal time and make a small charge to cover this. Alternatively, they’d be more than happy to play the first dance from an mp3 or Spotify through their own PA system.

What genres of live wedding bands are available in Surrey?

Surrey live wedding bands cover a wide variety of music styles, from traditional swing and barn‑dance bands to festival‑style acts, brass ensembles and genre‑focused performers.

We also have festival style bands and bands in the style of Postmodern Jukebox. Or hire a raucous brass and drums bands as a refreshing alternative to the classic guitar-based function band. They turn out big brassy versions of well-known classics.

Are bands insured and do they have PAT-tested equipment?

Yes, all Surrey bands are insured and have PAT-tested equipment.

How long will the band perform for?

Most Surrey wedding bands perform for around two hours of live music, typically split into two 60‑minute sets with a break in between.

So, assuming a venue closing time of between 11pm and midnight, we'd recommend a start time between 8.30 - 9.30pm.

Please note that if the band or their DJ services are required after midnight, late fees can apply.

Will the band need to arrive early and soundcheck?

Most Surrey wedding bands will need to arrive early and complete a soundcheck before performing, typically requiring around 60–90 minutes to set up and test their equipment.

It's generally best if the performance space is free of guests at this point, but if this isn’t possible, most bands can arrange a ‘noiseless’ line-check to keep the volume down.

Do Surrey wedding bands bring their own sound and lighting equipment?

Most Surrey wedding bands come fully equipped with their own professional sound and lighting systems, so you won’t need to provide any PA gear for live music at your reception.

It is worth getting in touch if you are expecting more than 200 guests, as extra equipment could be necessary.

For the performance itself you will need to provide the band with a flat and sheltered stage area measuring at least 3x3 meters for a 3-piece band – add an extra meter per band member as applicable.

The band will also require a power source for their equipment and a raised stage is preferable.

What does the band need from us on the day of the wedding?

On the wedding day, Surrey wedding bands typically expect a hot meal and drinks for their musicians, along with a safe performance area and access to power for their equipment.

Travelling, setting up and performing constitutes a long working day, so our bands ask for food and drink to be provided at the event. This could be served after they've set up and before the start of the performance.

Other than that, they'll just need a flat, safe performance area with access to standard domestic power sockets.

What happens if a musician is ill or can’t make it on the day?

If a band member becomes unavailable before your wedding, your Surrey wedding band will arrange a fully-rehearsed substitute musician, so your event goes ahead without compromise.
In the unlikely case the entire band is unable to perform, we’ll work hard to find a replacement band (in a similar genre and price range) from our network of Surrey, London and surrounding area wedding bands, musicians and DJs.

How do bands handle performance breaks and interval music?

During performance breaks, Surrey wedding bands keep the music going by playing recorded songs or playlists through their PA system so the party atmosphere continues while the band takes a short rest.

Some bands can also provide proper DJ sets before or after their performance – check their profile for more details.

Can Surrey wedding bands play outdoors at our venue?

Many Surrey wedding bands are happy to perform outdoors at your venue, provided there’s suitable shelter to protect them and their equipment and access to a reliable power supply.

Give us a call if you’re unsure if your venue will fit the bill and we’ll be more than happy to advise.

Our venue has a sound limiter. What should we do?

If your wedding venue in Surrey has a sound limiter, the first step is to find out the exact decibel (dB) threshold so you can choose a live band that can perform within those noise limits.

If it's set to a threshold below 95 decibels, let us know immediately, as some bands will struggle to keep within this range. Some bands will be able to substitute live drums for electronic drums, which will bring down the overall level of the band.

If the sound limiter threshold is in the range of 80-85dB, this may limit your choice of bands to duos or acoustic set-ups. Let us know if this is the case and we can help find the best option for you.

Where in Surrey have your wedding bands played previously?

Our Surrey wedding bands have performed at many of the county’s most popular wedding venues and locations, from historic manor houses and grand estates to charming countryside barns and village halls across Surrey.

Some of our bands' favourite venues for a reception party are: Froyle Park, Glenmore House, Gildings Barns, Botleys Mansion, Nutfield Priory Hotel, Pembroke Lodge, Painshill Park, Northbrook Park, Nonsuch Mansion and Great Fosters.

Our acts have performed in all major centres throughout the county, including: Woking, Guildford, Walton-on-Thames, Ewell, Esher, Camberley, Redhill, Leatherhead, Epsom, Weybridge, Ashford, Egham, Staines, Farnham, Horley, Godalming, Reigate, Caterham, Frimley, Cobham and Dorking.

How can we save money when hiring a Surrey wedding band?

To save money when hiring a wedding band, choose a local band based in or near Surrey to reduce travel and accommodation costs and keep your entertainment budget under control.

Before you book more musicians for afternoon background music, check whether members of your evening act can provide this – it'll save you additional costs, such as travel.

Consider a midweek or winter celebration – prices are usually more competitive!

Can you help us choose the right wedding band?

Of course! If you need a little help deciding which of our Surrey wedding bands is for you give us a call on 0333 242 0560 or send us a message. We’ll discuss which parts of your day require music and your preferences.

Do we still need a DJ if we book a wedding band?

You don’t always need to hire a separate DJ when you book a Surrey wedding band, because many bands can play recorded music between and after their live sets to keep the party going. This music can be provided by the band, or you can give them a playlist of your own.

Some bands are able to provide their own DJ service for before and/or after the performance but check out their individual profiles to find out more.

There are some circumstances where it might be worth hiring a DJ as well as the band:

  • If you're planning on finishing very late, it might be more cost-effective to hire a separate DJ than pay the whole band to stay on.
  • If you have specialised tastes or beat-matching is particularly important to you, a separate wedding DJ might be the best option for you.
